Fame d'aria (Italian Edition)

Pietro Borzacchi and his son Jacopo are traveling through winding roads, perched villages, and hills of white stones. Suddenly, the clutch of their old Golf gives out at the worst possible moment: on a Friday afternoon, in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately, they encounter Oliviero, a mechanic driving his tow truck, who agrees to escort them to the nearest town, Sant'Anna del Sannio.

As they wait for Oliviero to fix the car, father and son find shelter with Agata, the owner of a bar that used to be a pension. Sant'Anna del Sannio, with its few hundred inhabitants, is a beautiful town where time seems to have stopped, with little apparent future, like many small towns in the Italian provinces. Assisting Agata in the bar is Gaia, whose smile perfectly encapsulates her name. It is Gaia who, with her spontaneity, breaks through every appearance, for Pietro is a man living in hell.

"The parents of healthy children know nothing. They don't know that normality is a lottery, and a child's illness, especially if you have a single income, becomes a curse," Pietro explains to Gaia. But poverty is not the worst thing. Pietro fights every day against an enemy that strikes at the heart: disillusionment. A disillusionment that often turns into blind, black rage. However, Pietro's pain will face something new and unexpected.

Agata, Gaia, and Oliviero are the humanity that still resists, often made up of simple, unconscious heroism. In "Fame d'aria," Daniele Mencarelli grapples with one of the most intense emotions: parental love, leading us by the hand into that thin line where tragedy and rebirth have always coexisted.
